Nico Rosberg

Nico Rosberg is a professional Formula driver from Germany who currently races for the Mercedes Formula 1 team. Although he races under the flag of Germany in Formula 1, he has also briefly raced under the flag of Finland, earlier in his career, and holds the passport of both the European nations.

Rosberg was born in West Germany to former Formula 1 legend and Drivers’ World Championship holder Keke Rosberg and his German wife and spent much of his childhood and youth in the principality of Monaco, where he currently resides. The Finnish-German driver is fluent in several languages, including English, Italian, French, German and Spanish but he can speak only a little Finnish but has recently stated that he is trying to learn the language.

Nico Rosberg first made his name in the racing circuit when he won the Gp2 Series of 2005, racing for the ART Team, and he has also raced in the Formula 3 Euro Series where he raced for Team Rosberg, which was owned by his father. Rosberg joined the Formula 1 bandwagon when he signed for the Williams F1 team in 2006. He even achieved the highest score in the history of the team in an engineering aptitude test designed for drivers. He spent three relatively successful seasons at the team as he learned to cut his teeth in the sport.

In 2010, he joined the new Mercedes team which had taken over Brawn GP and since then, the Finnish-German driver has enjoyed quite a lot of success, having won three races during his stint and enjoyed four pole positions as well. Nico Rosberg is seen as one of the best young drivers in Formula 1 at this moment as well as one of the most complete ones alongside former world champion Fernando Alonso.

Ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix during the weekend, Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has said that it will be extremely difficult for his team to manage a victory from this race. Rosberg will be on pole position for the race, but he reckons that it will be extremely difficult to convert his first pole in more than a year into a victory. He has pointed out to the fact that the team has been suffering from tyre degradation due to the high temperatures. It is easy for them to put together a great qualifying times in a couple of laps, but maintaining the pace over the course of several laps will be difficult.

He has said that the rear tyre degradation is a major worry for him. Mercedes have been a long way off from challenging the likes of Red Bull and Ferrari, but they have been showing signs of improving this year after the arrival of Lewis Hamilton. Amongst the teams like Ferrari and Red Bull, Mercedes has offered the extreme condition of tyre degradation. He has said that it will be extremely difficult to manage a race in just two stops, as it may require at least three stops from Mercedes in order to keep optimum performance from the tyres.

“We saw in China that we were struggling a little bit more in the race and tomorrow is going to be difficult for us. We saw on Friday on the long runs there are other teams that were at least as competitive as us, maybe a bit better, so we need to be cautious. It’s between two and three stops. Some teams will try two, maybe us, but that will be really on the edge because the tyres really drop off,” said Rosenberg ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that his teammate Nico Rosberg deserve to finish in the third position at the Malaysian Grand Prix. Hamilton was in the third position with just a few laps remaining in the race, but he was caught extremely quickly by the German driver Rosberg. Despite being more quick than Hamilton, Mercedes ordered Rosberg to save the engine and tires. They also said that Rosberg should keep behind Hamilton. Such team orders have been extremely controversial in the sport, and it once again reared its ugly head at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

However, the former McLaren driver has said that Rosberg deserved to finish in the podium positions. The team principal Ross Brawn indicated to Rosberg that Hamilton was not in a position of challenging the German because he was conserving his fuel, which was low. After the race, Hamilton said that Rosberg was that deserve the person to be on the podium because he was extremely good in the race. Not only was he smart enough, but he also was extremely quick throughout the race. However, Hamilton has said that the constructors table position came to mind and this probably led to the team decision. He would allow Rosberg such a similar advantage in the future.

“He drove a smarter and more controlled race than me. He is a great team-mate. I will speak to the team, or apologise. I said to him he did a fantastic job. He had better pace through the race. Nico deserved to be where I am. With the position in the championship the team thought it was logical to stay in position. Would I let him past in the future? I probably would,” said Hamilton. Meanwhile, the Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel ignored the team orders to win the Malaysian Grand Prix .

The Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has said that he is extremely confident that the German team can build on the progress that they made in the 2012 season. Mercedes came back into the sport three years ago and managed to get a stellar lineup consisting of Rosberg and Michael Schumacher. However, they have managed just one victory in the last three years. Despite this, they have paid a huge amount of money to the former McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton, who has signed a three-year contract with the team. Despite struggling throughout last season, Rosberg has said that the team made a lot of progress in several areas of the car.

The team principal Ross Brawn recently decided to make several changes to the aerodynamic department in order to make the team competitive once again. He has praised the way the team has improved since starting three years ago. Yet, many have been critical of the way Mercedes have performed since returning to the sport. It remains to be seen if they will be successful with the new lineup of Hamilton and Rosberg. Due to the several rule changes coming in the 2014 season, Mercedes are more likely to concentrate on the next year’s car.

“The improvement is massive. Unfortunately we haven’t seen it much in the second half of the season, but in the first part of the season we had the fastest car in two races – China and Monaco. That’s the improvement. We’re making progress; we’re getting better. If you would walk through the factory today, you would see a massive improvement compared to three years ago. We were hoping to already be there really fighting for the championship this year,” said Rosberg. The team principal Ross Brawn has also been extremely optimistic about the chances for next season.

The Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has said that he is not worried about the poor form of the team in recent races. The team has been unable to score even a point for the last few races. The final point from a race came in the Singaporean Grand Prix many weeks ago. Yet, Nico Rosberg is confident that the next season can be bright for the team especially with the addition of Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes have signed the McLaren driver on a three-year contract that will start from the season. Mercedes started the season in pretty strong fashion, but the end of the season has been extremely poor.

However, Rosberg has said that they are not thinking about the results in the last few races because we are already focusing on the next season. He is confident that next season will be the season where there is a lot of improvement from Mercedes. Mercedes entered into the sport three years ago and have been able to boast of a line-up that includes Rosberg and Michael Schumacher. However, they have been unable to make any progress up the grid during this period even with the technical brain of Ross Brawn in the pits.

“It is a concern? I don’t know. I am not thinking about the past. What I am thinking about is we do the best we can at the moment to prepare ourselves for next year. For sure it is looking better. A lot better. The people are starting to have a good impact. I am not looking at the past races of anything like that,” said the German in a recent interview. Rosberg will be racing alongside Michael Schumacher for the last time, as the 43-year-old German retails from the sport after the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has said that he is hoping that his decision to choose fresh tyres for the start of the Indian Grand Prix this weekend will pay off eventually. Mercedes have struggled with both pace and reliability throughout the season. Nico Rosberg will be getting ready for intense competition from the 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton when he eventually joins the team next season. Hence, he must perform extremely well in the remaining few races of the season in order to show that he is not the number two driver for next season.

Mercedes did not elect to take part in the final qualifying session in the hope of going for the separate strategy for Nico Rosberg. Rather than use the fresh tyres in the qualifying session itself, Nico Rosberg decided to use them in the race. The Indian Grand Prix is a circuit that is extremely quick. It is only behind the Italian Grand Prix when it comes to speed. Hence, he will be hoping that the fresh tyres will help him get a superior advantage over the rivals in the first few laps of the race. The fresh tyres has certainly helped many teams qualify in a better position than their race pace would suggest.

“In terms of our strategy for the race, it was better for us not to run in Q3 as it should give us a better pace tomorrow with fresh tyres. Of course it’s not a nice feeling to be waiting in the pits and watching the others out there however. It seems that the race will be tough on the tyres with very long stints, so I should have an advantage compared to the cars in front of me. I’ll be able to tell you tomorrow if it was the right decision but I’m reasonably happy,” said Rosberg.

The Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has said that there is still a lot of work to do for the team in order to be in front in the F1 paddock. The Mercedes cars have not been up to the mark when it comes to competing with the likes of Ferrari and Red bull this season. However, they have the chance to make up for the difference in time when the F1 season resumes heart of the Belgian Grand Prix. Ferrari currently leads the drivers and constructors championship by a massive point difference, while they are closely followed by the likes of Red bull and McLaren. Despite having a strong driver line-up in the form of Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg, Mercedes has struggled in this season.

Nico Rosberg comes into the Belgian Grand Prix having just secured two points in the last three places, which makes up for a poor summer break. In order to compete with the rest of the teams, Mercedes should work a lot more harder according to Nico Rosberg. Speaking ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, Rosberg has said that it is one of his favourite races in the entire F1 calendar and is very much looking forward to it.

“I always look forward to racing at Spa; it’s one of the highlights of the season and definitely one of my favourite tracks. The circuit itself is outstanding, with of course the most exciting corner of the calendar in Eau Rouge. There’s a lot of hard work ahead to make sure we are competing where we want to be and challenging towards the front of the field. Everybody in our team will be working in a focused way to help Nico and Michael score the best possible results next weekend,” said Nico Rosberg ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix.
